The Silver Lining of the Trump Administration

Brace yourselves… I’m about to say something positive about the Trump Administration.

This administration has done something incredible for our democracy. They have been the red flag our country needed to acknowledge how fundamentally broken the system is (Sorry for the bait and switch).

To allow an actual lunatic (I say that word not as a petty insult, but as an actual description of his erratic behavior in debates, online, and in interviews) to be able to win an election and govern from the most powerful seat in the world (for 4 years of our lives) is an unignorable sign that our processes are not as secure from corruption as the Founding Fathers hoped.

My hope is that this potentially fatal flaw in the system inspires a new generation of politicians and outspoken constituents who care more about the citizens of their country than they do about their party, their own pursuit of power, or spreading their own individual ideologies. We simply cannot trust any politician who refuses to acknowledge how inept and dangerous this person is to the credibility of the role of the President. It’s either a sign that they are unfit to represent us, or that they have similarly ulterior motives as him.

I realize it’s not easy to admit when we’ve been conned. It’s a blow to our own egos that we let this happen (Whether you voted for him or not). But there is not a single doubt in my mind that the office of the President is currently occupied by a conman, and the MOST important next step for our country is to begin the process of fixing and/or rebuilding a system that never lets this happen again.

The next step is electing Joe Biden, obviously. But this alone will not fix the problem. Starting with Biden and newly elected congresspeople (whether they ride an elephant or a donkey) we need to start demanding that our political framework be modernized to protect us from making this mistake again.

America is strong enough to survive it once — but let’s not push our luck…
